In one of the most tragic bus accidents in Pennsylvania history, a private charter bus carrying nearly two dozen Seton Hill college students and their coaches veered off the highway. This bus accident occurred yesterday at approximately 9 a.m. near Carlisle, Pennsylvania in Cumberland County.

According to at least one major online news source*, the students were en route to a lacrosse game in Millersville, Pennsylvania when the accident occurred. The bus veered off of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and went through a guardrail. It rolled nearly 100 yards before landing upright and striking a tree.

Pennsylvania State Police as well as Pennsylvania Turnpike officials were on the scene yesterday investigating the cause of the accident, which remains unclear. No other cars were involved in the accident and investigators have suggested that something may have happened to the driver, like a medical emergency or he might have fallen asleep. Investigation results are not likely to be available for several months. Anyone with any information about this bus accident can call the Pennsylvania State Police at (215) 560-6200.

The bus driver died at the scene. One of the coaches who was 6 months pregnant was flown by helicopter to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. Sadly, neither she nor her unborn child survived. She is survived by a spouse and young child.
