Violent Crime Rates in Philadelphia
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, there were over 15,200 violent crimes in the city in 2016. In 2015, there were over 16,000. Violent crimes include murders, rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults. This means that every day, 40 people become victims of violent crime in Philadelphia.
Victims of violent crime often suffer long-lasting effects, both physical and mental. That’s why it’s important to elect a District Attorney who understands the unique needs of victims of violent crime. Essentially, the position of District Attorney carries with it a great responsibility to victims of crime. The responsibility includes ensuring that a victim is treated with dignity and respect as well as ensuring that the victim’s rights are protected, per the Pennsylvania Crime Victims Act.
