Ladders are used in many industries. Falls from even 5 feet can cause serious injuries. From painting to electrical, workers depend on ladders for their safety.

Just this month, a stepladder was recalled due to instability. On December 11, 2012, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall of 20,000 stepladders/stepstools imported by Wing Enterprises of Utah. These ladders and stools were manufactured in China.

The recall was issued due to potential failure of the inner side rails, which can separate from the outer rails, causing the ladder to become unstable. The importer has received at least 9 reports of the ladder becoming unstable and ladder users falling. These ladders were sold exclusively at Home Depot between August 2012 to October 2012. Contact the importer at (855) 595-3378, for a replacement.

In situations where a defective ladder causes an accident at work, the laws of Pennsylvania and New Jersey may allow the injured worker to recover for their injuries. There may be workplace accident claims against the following:

  • ladder manufacturer,
  • ladder importer,
  • ladder retailer, and
  • ladder, equipment maintenance/rental companies.
