2 Major Auto Accidents on I-476 Near Philadelphia

Highway accidents, especially those involving trucks are often fatal due to the relative size difference between trucks and passenger cars and SUVs. Factor in speed and other conditions such as icy roads, and the results are often tragic.

In the past week, there have been 2 major auto accidents on I-476 in Delaware County, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. One accident resulted in a fatality; the other accident involved 4 vehicles, including a large box truck. The accidents occurred within the same stretch of I-476.

February 20, 2014 – Box Truck Crushes Car; 2 Other Vehicles Involved

Early this morning, a major truck accident blocked portions of I-476. Icy conditions have been blamed for a 4 car accident in the Northbound lanes of I-476 in Delaware County, near the Route 1 exit. It is unclear how the accident occurred. The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.

According to a local news report, the accident occurred at approximately 5:00 a.m., when a box truck overturned onto a small passenger car. Two other vehicles were involved. February 18, 2014 – Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

In the early evening hours of February 18, a young man was killed after he was ejected from his vehicle near Radnor, PA. The accident occurred in the Southbound lanes of I-476, near the Route 30 exit. According to a local news report, the driver crashed into a guardrail, after which his vehicle began to roll. This recent accident mirrors the circumstances of another fatal single vehicle car crash on the same highway, near the same exit. Just after the holiday, a young man was also ejected from his car in a single car crash in the Southbound lanes of I-476 near the Route 30 exit. In the early morning hours of December 27, 2013, a driver lost control of his car which then hit a median and rolled several times.
